There is bad news for Nigerians who frequently shuttle Dubai. It appears the long battle between the Nigerian government and UAE national carrier, Emirates airlines is far from over as Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has announced a total ban on the airline’s inbound and outbound flights.
Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, who made the announcement during the weekly briefing by the PTF on Monday stated that the ban will take effect from midnight on Wednesday.
It is no news that Emirates and KLM had refused to fly passengers out of Nigeria in the past few weeks even though they fly passengers into the country.
The airlines had claimed the development is due to the new guidelines introduced as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 but Nigeria describes the actions of the airlines as discriminatory and devoid of scientific reasons.
The ban by Nigeria seems to be immediately yielding results as KLM has agreed to immediately rescind its decision not to fly passengers out of the country.
Let see how Emirates will respond in the next few days.
