Real Madrid secured a narrow2-1 win against Barcelona in a pulsating El Clasico league game on Saturday night.
The win means Real Madrid are now level with Atletico Madrid on 66 points in the table and enjoying a superior head-to-head record moving to move top while Barca, is now third with just one point behind.
In Saturday’s game, Madrid took the lead after just 13 minutes to with a super flick by Karim Benzema who was captain on the night.
And the hosts doubled their advantage before the half hour mark when a Toni Kroos freekick from the edge of the penalty area was deflected off Sergino Dest and Jordi Alba on its way into the net.
Heavy rains added its own flavor to the match, but Barcelona constant pressure produced a goal eventually when Oscar Mingueza diverted a Jordi Alba cross from the byline into the net off his shin.
At the closing stages of the game, Casemiro was shown two quick-fire yellow cards as the pressure from Barca increased but an equalizer never came.
