A sneak peek into the exciting times ahead as far as the next gubernatorial elections in Lagos are concerned seem to have been laid bare on Monday at the 3rd Annual Ramadan Lecture organized by the Lagos4Lagos Movement.
Held within the Ikeja precinct and themed “Politics: the Islamic Perspective”, the lecture was fully subscribed with attendees ranging from Muslim faithfuls to grassroot politicians, clerics and traditional monarchs.
Some of the dignitaries at the lecture include the Guest Speaker, renowned Uztaz (Dr.) Abdul-Hakeem Muhammad Al_Awwal of the Amir Ikwan-ul-muslimin Foundation; Professor Abdulkadir Paramole of the Lagos State University who was also former Chairman of the Lagos State Pilgrims Welfare Board; the paramount ruler of Osolu Kingdom, HRM Oba Abideen Durosinmi Agunbioyinbo; the Onikotun of Ikotun land, HRM Oba Azeez Gbadabiu and Kabiyesi Onishasha of Shasha kingdom, HRM Oba Babatunde Akanbi Ogunronbi, amongst others.
Playing host alongside his leadership team to the dignitaries and guests was the Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran who, in his opening remarks, warmly welcomed the guests and made the point that their presence at a Lagos4Lagos-organized event is a strong show of an independent-minded human attribute which is worthy of emulation and required to rescue Lagos and her residents from the current ‘Baba Sope’ modus operandi and its resultant retardation of our collective progress in the state.
Speaking to the thrust of the lecture which highlighted the importance of sobriety, conviction and trust as key ingredients in the practice of governance, Uztaz Al_Awwal, in his customary bluntness, defined politics as a structured process which must not be defective from the outset so it doesn’t produce defective results. He stated further that politics should be a selfless service as well as an act of worship, and admonished gladiators to remember that they hold their positions in trust and so must be well prepared by dedicating themselves to serving the populace with the fear of Allah. He advised Jandor to bring a difference to governance.
On his part, the Osolu of Osolu Kingdom, HRM Oba Abideen Durosinmi shared his excitement by describing Dr. Adediran as a true son of Awori who is resolute in his pursuit to liberate the people and set them free to flourish. He charged all to join hands with Jandor and align with the Lagos4Lagos project.
The session ended on a high note with the concluding message by Professor Abdulkadir Paramole of LASU who stated that government must be ready to provide enabling environment for individuals and businesses to thrive. He also advised that truthfulness should be the cardinal principle to uphold at all times.
